The employer’s first impression about you is the most important matter that you should consider when going to an interview. Showing up with casual or untidy clothes can give the employer an impression like “is he coming here to waste our time?” So make sure that you wear tidy, formal and conservative clothes such as: suits, long sleeve shirts, dark socks, neat professional hair style and easy on the perfume or the after shave after all you employer might be allergic.
CV, short for curriculum vitae, is where you will include an overview of your life and qualifications and by life I mean your previous experiences with other companies if you ever had. Always remember that your CV should not be ten pages long! It should be only one page where all the vital and relevant information should be there. Employers are never interested in where you grew up or where you studied in elementary school! check this article on how to write an appealing resume: 44 Resume Writing Tips
Read about the firm you are applying for
Do a research about the firm you are applying for, find out about the company’s products and services and read recent publications, for example financial and economical news, about the company. The employers would always be more than happy to hear positive information about their company from a third party. So do your homework, read a lot about the company then go ahead.
Your body language during your interview
Back straight, chin up and with a stack of confidence speak out! Body language can say a lot about you even without you speaking! It is a language of its own. For example, if you are nervous or sitting crossed legged on the chair the employer will lose his interest of hiring you before starting the interview. Look smart, sit smart, speak smart and always remember that they pay you for the services you provide and they are interested in them.
Finally, your skills
Nobody will help you in this area but yourself, after all it is all in you! Be sure about your skills know what you can offer the firm and be absolutely truthful about yourself during the interview don’t build castles in the sky and try to make them believe wrongful information about you. Don’t try to polish your skills or fraud your GPA as the company might do a background check about you, if they ever considered hiring you, and you will be exposed soon after you start working. Don’t waste your time and don’t waste theirs.
Make sure to follow up after the interview and send a thank you notice to your interviewers stating your interest in the position offered.
